This diverse background gives her a broad understanding of mental health needs across different stages and settings.
Dr. Claps earned her Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology with a concentration in Psychological Assessment, along with an M.S. and B.A. in Psychology. Her research on children’s development of gender stereotypes has been presented nationally, and her doctoral dissertation focused on maternal personality traits and birth setting decisions.
Therapeutic Approach
Dr. Claps’s work is grounded in psychodynamic and family systems theories, which explore how our early experiences, relationships, and emotions shape the patterns in our lives today. She integrates this depth with practical, evidence-based skills from cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) to provide a balanced approach that helps clients both understand the roots of their struggles and build effective coping tools.
Therapy with Dr. Claps is collaborative and client-centered, meaning your treatment plan is guided by what matters most to you. Early sessions focus on understanding your unique story, and ongoing work addresses your goals and challenges with warmth, empathy, and practical support. Clients often describe her as easy to talk to, even about difficult topics they have never shared before.
Outside of Therapy
Outside of her professional work, Dr. Claps enjoys family time, gardening, DIY projects, technology, Eastern philosophy, and many other interests that enrich her approach to therapy.
